From our new acting President:
Ladies of the Book Club,
Thanks for a terrific meeting last night and a strong, rounded discussion
of "Running With Scissors". For such a psychologically complex memoir, we all seemed
to take home the humor amidst the grotesque. Adrienne, you could not have
been a more gracious host and the rapid disappearance of your shrimp
quesadillas, cajun crab dip and open-face sandwich melts testifies to
their yumminess (is that a word?).
By unanimous agreement, we'll still meet monthly going forward, we're
on hiatus for September and we'll begin Round 4 in October (now tap gloves
and let's have a clean fight). Here's who hosts when:
October - Mimi
November - Patrick
December - Adrienne
January - Cathy
February - Ingle
March - Trish
April- Mary Ellen
A suggestion to consider the adoption of a theme for all book selections
in the next round (thanks,Adrienne) was unanimously welcomed. In the spirit
of
our most recent selection, a suggestion to bible-dip to determine whether
to go forward with the adoption of the theme was also unanimously welcomed
(thanks,
me). A bible search followed by a bible-dip ensued. The bible-dip was
interpreted and unanimously accepted to approve the adoption of a theme.
A second bible-dip was suggested and unanimously welcomed to determine
the theme, resulting in the following from Psalms 91:7-8.
A thousand may fall dead beside you,
ten thousand all around you,
but you will not be harmed.
You will look and see how the wicked are punished.
By unanimous agreement, each member may apply this thematic frame to
their book selection as they see fit.
Lastly, (and as if you could not already tell), I get to be Acting President
and Mary Ellen is now Honorary President for Life. Given the present rule
of rap and hip hop culture and my aversion to being aged out of the zeitgeist,
while pursuing the duties of this office, I prefer to be called simply
Royal P.
